Frequently Asked Questions

  • Yes! All participants will receive a stipend of $5000, less appropriate deductions. This is based on a salary of $16/hour for 35 hours of work per week (including group meeting time) for 9 weeks.

  • Many things! A big piece of the summer will be completing an internship at a placement location in or around the city. This could be a homeless shelter, working with immigrants, or some other organization that is matched to your interests. To the best of our ability, we will match program participants with a placement that fits an area of their interest. You’ll also be meeting other young people in growing together, reflecting on God’s work in the world and how you are called to partake in it.

  • There are several options for housing during the course of the program. The residence of The Presbyterian College is in downtown Montreal. A limited number of dorm-style rooms with shared kitchens are available at a reduced rate for Montreal Mission Internship interns. Due to Montreal’s many students, there are many summer sublets to be had. Facebook groups such as Montreal Apartments, Roommates, Rooms for Rent and Sublets or McGill Off-Campus Housing are good places to start for finding temporary housing as well. Montreal’s great system of public transportation makes it possible to live in one of Montreal’s many neighbourhoods and have ready access to your placement as well as the college. Our program director can help answer further questions about housing.

  • While knowledge of French is not a requirement for this program, some French-language organisations may require a basic conversational level of French from their participants. The Montreal Mission Internship is a great place for people who speak some French to come speak it more often and to have an immersive experience.

  • Yes. Applicants to the program must be at least 18 years old at the time the program begins. But there is no educational requirement for participation in this program.

  • No. We welcome people from any religious or non-religious background who feel some sense of calling to make social change. The summer program, however, does use a Christian framework to understand the social sector and vocation so don’t be surprised if you find yourself thinking and talking about God during the summer.

  • No. You don’t currently need to be a member of a church to apply for this program. During the program, you may be attached to a church in Montreal to join in the life of their community.

  • We strongly encourage you not to. We want participants to commit fully to this program, both to their placement and to the community. Another job may detract from your ability to do this. If finances are an obstacle to participating in this program, please contact us for further conversation.

  • Maybe. If you are looking for credit for a college or university internship or co-op term, please let us know so we can discuss how this program can best meet your needs.

  • Your service placement will be at a location in the city, easily accessible via public transit. Group meetings will take place at Montreal Dio in downtown Montreal, just across the street from the campus of McGill University.

  • We are acutely aware of the continued risks and anxieties around Covid-19. All our program and gatherings will respect any guidelines in place at the time. We want our interns to feel safe, and are open to having conversations about what they need in this regard.
